On May 8th, 1945 World War II ended. Great Britain, Canada and Allies gave Europe freedom from the Nazi military. The Nazi military forced themselves into European countries.
1, 086, 343 Canadian men and women had full-time duty in World War II. They entered Europe from Normandy and Italy. The Canadian military freed Belgium and Netherlands from the Nazi military.
The 1, 086, 343 Canadian military men and women would be the great- grandfathers and great- grandmothers of Canadians today.
COVID 19 has cancelled parades across Great Britain and Europe. This boy celebrates VE Day and the freedom indoors.
Cherry trees tell us spring is close. Hundreds of cherry trees came from Japan to British Columbia in 1930 and 1959.
The Japanese in Canada celebrate the Sakura (Cherry Blossom) Festival. In Japan, people watch the cherry blossoms, hanami, between late March and early May. "The Golden Week" happens when all cherry trees on a street or in a park are blooming, a special moment to see.
