TRAIN IN TRADES
The Delta School District has a variety of trades that prepares students to work as Level 1 Apprentices. The Program allows students to attend a Trades Foundation Program, usually in the second semester of their Grade 12 year, and earn high school credits while at the same time completing a trades foundation program. The benefits of this Program are:
the Program is tuition free ($4,000- $5,000 value)
earn high school credits and post-secondary credits
be job ready at completion of Program
Foundation Training is available in the following trades:
Construction Electrician, Welding, Plumbing, Millwright, Metal Fabricator, Auto Service Technician, Automotice Body and Collision Repair, Professional Cook, Motorcycle and Power Equipment Technician, Baking & Pastry Arts, Carpenter, Commercial Painter
WORK IN TRADES
Do you have a job and work with a Red Seal Journeyperson? If yes, you could earn high school credits for the work you are already doing! Please see Mr. Campbell or Ms. Sansregret for further details.
DUAL CREDIT PROGRAMS
Calling all students going into Grade 11 or 12 in September! There is a program in which you take:
– Bronze Cross
– Bronze Medallion
– Swim and Life Saving Instructor
– Standard First Aid
In addition to the above certificates, students will receive Active Living 11 or 12 credits
Location: Sungod Pool (North Delta)
This program is in partnership with the City of Delta Parks and Recreation! By successfully completing this series of classes, you’ll fulfill the necessary prerequisites to become eligible for employment as an Aquatics Instructor. In addition, you will be well on your way to completing the lifeguard certification. You will hear from a variety of people in the field, collaborate with like-minded students and obtain aquatic leadership certification if you successfully complete the program.
Biomedical and Health Sciences Dual Credit Program
Get a head start on your university studies! Pathways that this program/course can lead:
Nursing

Medical and Health Services Manager
Biomedical Scientist
Public Health Officer/Analyst
Biotechnologist
The Degrees at KPU that those courses can be used for are:
Bachelors of Science: Health Science

Transfer Credit
Students start their program FULL TIME in February at the Surrey Campus. Students will take:
Biology 1110, Biology 1160, English 1100 and Psychology 1110.
Ability to work independently, distance learn and work in a group
Excellent attendance
Minimum of a 73% in Anatomy and Physiology 12
Minimum of a 73% in Life Science 11
Minimum of a 73% in Chemistry 11
Chemistry 12 is recommended
Completion of English 12 (67% or higher)
Be registered in a Delta school

Business Dual Credit Program
This Program is intended for students who are considering a career or post-secondary education in the Business field. Pre-requisites for this Program are:
Ability to work independently, distance learn and work in a group
Excellent attendance
Completion of English 12 (67% or higher)
Completion of Math 11 (67% or higher)
Be registered in a Delta school in the school year you are taking the program
CADD Dual Credit Program
The jobs in this field vary depending on the specialty diploma option you choose after completing the citation.
Architectural – create 3D models and 2D drawings for residential, commercial and government buildings. Jobs can be found in architectural design offices, manufacturing companies, construction companies and municipal offices.
Structural – create 3D models and 2D drawings for steel, concrete, and wood structures. They also prepare site drawings. Jobs can be found in engineering offices, steel fabrication shops, and highway, railway and marine facilities.
Mechanical – create 3D models and 2D drawings that detail industrial layouts such as conveyors and process piping, and manufacturing information for component assemblies and details. Jobs can be found in engineering firms, product design companies, construction companies or in fabrication shops.
Other Specialties – Electrical, Industrial, Manufacturing and Civil
Pre-requisites for this Program are:
Ability to work independently, distance learn and work in a group
Excellent attendance
Minimum of a C+ in Math 10; Math 11 preferred
Drafting 11 and/or 12 at 67% is required
Be registered in a Delta school

JUNIOR FIREFIGHTING PROGRAM
The Junior Firefighting Program will give the applicants a true understanding of the basic components, both physical and educational, of Delta Fire/Rescue’s basic training for new recruits. The educational component will test the applicant’s knowledge learned in the classroom of firefighting equipment, fire behaviour, the fire tetrahedron and the products of combustion, to name a few. The practical component of the program will test the applicant’s strength, endurance and teamwork skills. Some of these are: dragging charged hose lines, carrying ladders in a group, climbing the four-story hose tower and cutting up cars in teams using the “Jaws of Life”.

Work Experience Program
Work experience is an elective. It is very popular but you do not have to take it! If you want to elect it, here is what you do:

Develop skills and attitudes for the workplace
Transition from school to work or post-secondary education
Receive personal references
Develop confidence and self-reliance
Earn four graduation credits per course
