If you are interested in helping in the library please email me at cdaoust@deltaschools.ca.

End of Year & Summer Reading
All library books are to be returned to school as soon as possible (students do not need to wait for their library block to return books!) The first class to have all library books returned will win an Ice Cream Party. (Division 12 - Mrs. Formosa's class will continue to take out library books each day this week and "all library books returned" will mean that there are no overdue books.)
Students will be invited to participate in a Brooke Library Summer Reading Program where each student can sign out up to 15 books to read over the summer and return in September. Permission forms will be sent home with interested students who have returned all of their currently checked-out library books or can be printed and completed from the attachment.
There will be a Summer Reading Challenge where students will be encouraged to bring photos of themselves reading through the summer when they return to school in September. Winning students will be chosen based on a random draw.

Mission and Vision
This is how we do things in the Saa'ust Story Studio and Library Learning Commons:
Mission
The Saa’ust Story Studio Library Learning Commons at Brooke Elementary is an island of sanctuary where student agency and learning are guaranteed freedoms. We are an inspirational community where collaboration, belonging, and curiosity are safeguarded.
Vision
At the The Saa’ust Library Learning Commons at Brooke Elementary
we maintain a culture of curiosity and respect
we believe in the power of “saa’ust” - to lift each other up
we respect the best in our learners, see the genius in them and reflect it back so they can see it too and reach for their goals
in the LLC we are curious, compassionate learners who love to read, learn, play, create, and explore together.
We serve
learners - wholistically; mind, body, heart (emotions) and spirit
educators - within and beyond the school
families of our learning community
We have a rich collection of
diverse texts (books, magazines, articles, and online resources) you’ll find a story here that reflects you or opens your mind and heart to new possibilities (and if we don’t, we’ll get it!)
Supplies to show your learning in a variety of ways
Puppets
Toys
Blocks
Loose parts (think: gems, stones, animal and human figures)
Supplies to make a mark and record your thinking in words and images (paints, markers, pencils, coloured pencils, and crayons)
Digital tools to learn on and share your learning
Places to be YOU - quiet places, collaborative places, learning places and places to be restful.
We learn
Collaboratively & Inclusively - we learn and share our learning together. We are ALL learners, and we are welcome regardless of who we are, where we are from, what we look like, how we learn, what we believe or know to be true, or who we love.
Reciprocally - we understand that teaching and learning require a relationship and that educators learn as much from students as students learn from educators.
Curiously - we remain open to new teachings and ways of being and learning. We ask questions and avoid judgment.
Through Inspiration - we inspire and are inspired by each other - when we share our thinking and learning we can inspire others.
