NOTES ON ALL TESTING

Register early - plan ahead. Testing centers fill up. However, there are change and cancel fees.

You must send all testing scores to the colleges you will apply to, so start sending now!

If you receive free or reduced lunch, you do not have to pay for these tests. See your current counselor for a waiver. You currently get 2 regular SATS and 2 ACTS between 11th and 12th grade

If your college is test-optional, we strongly suggest you take the standardized tests, but if you are not happy with your results, then you do not send them when you apply.

HOW MANY TESTS SHOULD I TAKE BY FALL OF SENIOR YEAR?

This answer depends on your future plans.

Considering an elite 4 year school: We suggest 3, consider one being the ACT with Writing especially if you are strong in Math/Science.

Considering a 4 year school: We suggest 2 plus I would consider ACT if you are in Trig/Pre Calc and do well in Math/Science.

Considering a 2 year school, tech school or military: We suggest 1 SAT then consulting with your counselor if you need a second one.

WHICH TEST DATES SHOULD I PLAN FOR?

Check your schedule - these tests are on Saturdays and they are national dates, so they will not change. Check sports/work schedules and make sure you can get a ride. Try to give yourself at least 2 months between taking the same test, so you have time to review your scores and try to improve them.

HOW MANY TESTS SHOULD I TAKE SENIOR YEAR?

Use senior year to try to improve scores if needed, don't plan to take them for the first time during senior year. If you procrastinate until senior year, you will have less opportunity to improve your scores. You need to be done all testing by December of your senior year. Note, many college applications early deadlines are before December, so you may want to be done by October if you want any early admissions program
