Welcome to
Ocean Air School

          Hello from Mrs. Hemingway!

I am so excited to be your third grade teacher and can't wait to meet each of you!

I have been teaching in the Del Mar Union School District for the past 25 years in both second and third grades, and as a Resource Specialist Teacher for grades K-6. I attended San Diego State University, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology with a minor in Social Work. I also have a Multiple Subject Teaching Credential, Learning Handicapped Teaching Credential and a master's degree in Special Education.

All About Third Grade!

There's so much to be excited about in third grade!   We will  deepen our reading comprehension skills, write informational, opinion and narrative pieces and gain a better understanding of the mathematical concepts of multiplication, division and fractions. In social studies and science we will study the Kumeyaay, plant and animal adaptations and the impacts of severe weather. Another focus will be on social emotional learning such as how to resolve a conflict, understanding the importance of being a good citizen and how to be a kind friend.  Get ready to share, explore, build and be creative!  I look forward to a year filled of fun, learning and growth. I can't wait to be on this journey with you!

I believe students learn best when they are given opportunities throughout the day to interact and collaborate together, as well as feel comfortable to share their thoughts and take risks with their thinking. Empowering each student to achieve their personal best and feel proud of their accomplishments is very important to me.

Life Outside of the Shark Tank

I live in Rancho Penasquitos with my husband, Troy. We have two boys, but will soon be navigating the role of "empty nesters."  My oldest son lives here in San Diego and my youngest will be a sophomore at Point Loma Nazarene University.  When I'm not teaching, I enjoy spending time with my family,  walking my dog, hanging out with friends, reading and doing puzzles.
