I think primary grades are the best because students develop a lot of responsibility and are so eager to learn new things. I love making “wow!” moments in my classroom that really stretch my students minds and challenge their thinking. Numerous studies have shown that students who feel safe and happy learn more. Not only that - you learn more when you're having fun! I try to add silly moments, jokes, songs, and dances in many lessons. I place a lot of emphasis on social emotional learning and teaching kids how to be good people - not just good students.
Because of these foundational years, the world opens to students, enabling them to develop new connections between concepts and explore new curiosities. Here’s to a fantastic year!
I’m originally from Lake Tahoe, but lived in Los Angeles and the San Francisco Bay Area for many years. I moved to San Diego eight years ago and can't imagine living anywhere else now. In my free time, I like playing video games, building furniture, snowboarding, yoga, going to the gym, and cooking. My husband and I have an adorable golden retriever named Barley (an homage to the San Diego craft brewery scene) and a cat named Rue (from The Hunger Games).
