Dear Parents,
Welcome to third grade! I am looking forward to working with you. It is going to be a great year!
Each week I will post a short newsletter on my website letting you know about what will be coming up the following week. Please let me know if you prefer to receive a hard copy.
Here is a quick peek at our first week together (Sept. 2-5) to let you know what will be going on here at school!
Tuesday and Wednesday--DES Orientation Days
Thursday—Music with Mr. Aalfs
Please send a healthy, non-messy snack to school for your child each day. Children may bring a water bottle to school if desired, but soda, juices, and other beverages are not allowed in our classroom. Thanks for your help!
You can find our lunch menu on our school website under Families and Students: Food Services.
Friday—Phy. Ed. with Mr. Salay
It is a good idea to either send a sweater or a sweatshirt with your child each day, or have him/her keep one at school. Even on very warm days outside, our classroom can be very chilly. It can also be very warm and because it is so unpredictable, I encourage layers of clothing!
If your child has a cell phone or a smart watch, please do not have him/her bring it to school to use. Here is an excerpt from our school handbook:
Cell phones, smart watches and other personal devices are not to be used during the school day unless it is for an educational purpose and the student has received permission from his or her teacher. Should a student be granted permission, the device must only be used for the purposes agreed upon by the teacher. Phones and other devices are strictly prohibited during passing times, recess, lunch, and all other times unless permission has been given. Because of this, cell phones and other devices should be kept in a student’s locker until dismissal at the end of the day.
Thank you for your cooperation!
In addition to establishing routines and procedures for the year, we will be discussing our hopes and dreams for this year. Please watch for some “parent hopes and dreams” homework next week.
Thank you in advance for all of your help and support in this transition back to school. As much as most of us love school, it can be hard to give up the freedom of summer. Kids do better with established routines. Please help them get plenty of sleep each night, and encourage a healthy breakfast before school each day. I am so excited to begin a new school year with you!
Have a great week!
