Supported Decision-Making is an alternative to guardianship that empowers individuals with disabilities to make informed decisions with help from people they trust while protecting their rights to safety and privacy. When a person, along with her/his/their team chooses this option, an agreement is developed and signed by family and friends who are named as “supporters.” Supporters work together to help the person with a disability consider and weigh options without giving up the power to have the final say in life-impacting decisions.
