Become a host family!
Requirements:
Offer a 3-4 month stay as part of your family.
Live within the DeForest Area School District.
Provide a separate bedroom (or shared bedroom with a child of same gender).
Maintain a clean background check.
Participate in a 1-2 hour orientation training (online and in-person).
Greet the student at the airport.
Include the student as a part of your family.
Provide transportation (students are not allowed to drive).
Support the student with routine, school, language, and acclimating to all adjustments.
How can you best prepare to host a student?
Before the exchange, learn as much as possible about the student’s culture, which may help prevent misunderstandings. Also, think about which aspects of your culture you would like to share with the student, such as types of food, entertainment, and local places of interest.
In addition, contact the student and his or her parents as soon as Rotarians provide the student’s name and contact information. You may extend a welcome and tell them about your family. The student may also appreciate your input about the types of clothing to bring and information about your community.
DeForest Area Rotary Club responsibilities
Provide/Pay for a cell phone.
Pay for school lunches and school-related activities.
Pay for any Rotary-sponsored events (including travel).
Provide a monthly allowance.
