Dual Language Program
Deer Park is very excited to announce it will be starting a dual language program beginning in the 2024-2025 school year! The dual language program will be offered only in third grade.

What is the dual language program?
The dual language program is a general education class which is comprised of both native English and native Spanish speakers (50/50). Content is taught in both English and Spanish throughout the day, promoting bilingualism and biliteracy among both sets of students.
What are the goals of this program?
Bilingualism and Biliteracy
The teacher will provide high-quality instruction in both English and Spanish to all students. Not only will students be given the opportunity to master core subjects, they'll also be learning language holistically and organically alongside their peers.Multicultural Competence and Self Esteem
The dual language setting will allow for diversity, equity, inclusion, and multiculturalism to be interwoven into all subject areas so that students may become more aware and accepting of the world around them.Academic Success
As with all our classes, students will be provided academically challenging curriculum aligned to NYS learning standards.
What would the dual language program look like?
Students will be taught half the day in English and the other half in Spanish. AM/PM schedules will rotate so that students will get the opportunity to learn different content areas in both languages. All lessons will have differentiation and support in both languages. Lessons are not repeated and/or translated.

¿Cómo sería el programa de lenguaje dual?
Los estudiantes serán enseñados la mitad del día en inglés y la otra mitad en español.
