Library Mission & Goals

The mission of DPHS Library is to be an essential component of the educational curriculum across all subjects, benefiting all students. As your school librarian, I will teach students how to access, evaluate, and utilize information in various formats, fostering academic success and personal enjoyment.  Additionally, the library will not only inspire students to read, but actively encourage them to explore their interests through literature, research, and creative endeavors, fostering a vibrant culture of reading and research. The library aims to enhance education by providing lessons and activities that foster the fundamental pillars of academic and social success beyond high school, and serves as an extension of Deer Park School District's commitment to meeting students' academic, social, and emotional well-being. As a physical space, the library will serve as a hub for building and nurturing Deer Park's communities, inviting families and community members to perceive it as an extension and representation of their own community—a place that encourages socialization and the pursuit of joyful reading. 

1. Make the space of the library an accessible, welcome space to all students.

2. Become a source of collaboration and aid to Deer Park's community of teachers, through embedding research skills into the curriculum through enriching and engaging lessons, activities, and units.  

3. Create learning opportunities that aim to develop skill sets for our 21st-century learners, particularly in areas such as research, digital literacy, and ethics in areas of digital citizenship and academic learning. 

4. To maintain and utilize the library's collection, acquiring materials which are relevant to students' recreational and academic pursuits. 

5. To promote and nurture a schoolwide love of literature and reading through library lessons and programming.
