Characters


Abaddon/Death: (woman) fallen angel, stubborn, hurt, angry, left out, self-dismissive, vengeful, looking for purpose in Heaven, God ignored her, still looking for purpose after she has been cast out.  ABADDON is her name in Heaven and DEATH is her name once she accepts the job.

God: (man) Creator, disheartened that the original plan didn’t work, not a stiff version, has a sense of humor.

Lucifer: (man) fallen angel, ego centric, hides hurt with anger, demon, manipulative, slick.

Azazel/Charon: (man) fallen angel, quiet acceptance of his fate, trying to reconcile with it, doesn’t want to interact with others, friends with ABADDON/Death.  AZAZEL is his name in Heaven, CHARON is his name as the ferryman.

Sarah: (woman) good head on her shoulders, independent, can be stubborn, married to Joseph, friends with Claire, 8 months pregnant at start of play.

Joseph: (man) easy going but approaches series matters cautiously, married to Sarah, knows she can be a force to be reckoned with.

Silas: (man) can’t find his place in the world, not good at making decisions because he doesn’t know exactly what direction he wants to go in and doesn’t want to waste time on something that will not work out, courting Claire.

Doctor Monroe: (man) old doctor, smart, confident, compassionate.


These characters will be double cast:

Claire: (woman) has escaped her past, establishing a new life in the village, friends with Sarah, being courted by Silas, does care about him but gets frustrated at his lack to decide on a course of action

and

Eve: (woman) naïve not because she doesn’t want to learn but because she is a new creation, wants God to see her as important, wants to relate to him on his level. She is only in one scene that is 3 pages long.  This will be read at callbacks.




Sawyer: (man) harsh-it’s not that he doesn’t care about anybody-he has a clear direction in mind and is driven to see it through.  Wants land so he can control resources and then can control people without having to fight them.

and

Jesus: (man) only in one scene that is a page long, a conversation with Lucifer.  This will be read at callbacks.
