Numeracy in kindergarten happens in many ways. "Numeracy is the ability to apply Math concepts in all areas of life" (Raisingchildren.net). It involves understanding numbers, counting skills, solving simple number problems, measuring, sorting, noticing patterns, shapes, adding and subtracting.

count everything! Count fingers, toes, toys, have many crackers are on your plate? How many apples did we put in the cart?
Look for numbers at home, at the store, outside, in books and talk about what those numbers look like (i.e. 2 is two items, show and count)
Use comparison words (big, small, heavy, light)
Use directional words (over, under, beside, behind)
Look for shapes inside and outside (for example, a throw pillow looks like a square)
Look for and create patterns
Read lots of books about numbers
