Student Profiles: Now called Student Learning Summaries (SLS)
What they are: This is a document that is completed when a teacher and SERT have concerns about a student. This is where you can document student strengths and needs without formal diagnosis or IEP. In the new system, a new SLS is created each year, but the previous information will travel with the student to the next grade. It also highlights student interests, just like IEPs do now, and this is crucial information for engaging our students.
Why read them: They can provide valuable information about a student. For example, what strategies or tools worked well in the previous grade, what assessments were completed, or what accommodations were provided. These documents help us provide the supports, devise lessons and assessments best geared towards the needs of our students.
Where to find them:
Log into PowerTeacher
Click the waffle in the top right corner
Click PSP (same way you access IEPs)
When you click on the homeroom class, if a student has an SLS already, it says SUM under their student number
Why to start one: Do you have concerns about a student? Are you supporting a student in ways that accommodate their needs and you want to pass that info onto their next teacher? Does the student have academic and/or social/emotional needs not being met? These are all great reasons to start a SLS and begin documentation.
How to start them: Please speak to your SERT before starting one. But you can also follow the instructions in the document to the right of this text. -->
