Different study methods and general tips and tricks that were found to be successful were posted as well!
When will we have school in person again?
As of right now, we are unsure! The government is aware of the negative impacts online school has on student and family life, and are looking to open schools as soon as possible! Keep checking the news and we will keep you updated as we gain more info!
Why have I not been invited to my quadmester 3 classes yet?
Some teachers are still working on getting their marks in for the previous quad, so do not worry if you have not been invited to any classes yet! Some teachers also don't send out invitations until the morning of the new quad (tomorrow). Make sure to check both D2L and Google Classroom!
Your first online Google Meet (both cohorts) will take place at 10 am tomorrow.
How do you manage school and extracurricular activities?
Managing extracurriculars and the school can be extremely challenging, especially since due to online learning, many events overlap.
My best suggestion is to plan your week in advance (like on the application 'Notion') and make sure to give yourself enough flex time to work on any assignments you may have. - Mellina Solomon
Are there going to be any events taking place soon?
PHS Student Government is working on planning more events through Quad 3&4!
Look Forward to:
Game Nights
Giveaways
Seminars
Trivia Sessions
and More!
Is the course load considerably easier or harder this year (since we're online)?
Course load is entirely dependent on the course you are taking and your teacher (i.e a gym class vs math or chemistry)
Some students are finding this year to be harder in terms of course load due to being completely online, but some students are finding it easier as they prefer learning this way.
Would it be week one this week?
This week will be week one!
Class Schedule is as follows:
10:00 -12:30
Real-Time learning with your course one teacher.
12:30-1:30
Lunch Break
1:30 - 2:45
Real-time learning with your course two teacher.
2:45 - 4:00
Course Two Support (flextime learning)
Will there be school gear this year?
PHS Student Government is still positively discussing the idea of getting school merchandise with our administration! Nothing has been confirmed or denied yet.
What advice would you have for grade 9s?
Learn to appreciate high school and what it has to offer before it's over. Join clubs and teams that you truly enjoy! Surround yourself with people who can help you grow and learn. Learn to take it easy and not be too hard on yourself. Take advantage of the fact that classes are online and make new friends using social media. Once classes are in school again, try your best to walk on the right side of the halls. - Prreethiga Anpalagan
Do you think we should already choose our courses for the next school year and is there a due date?
Course selection for next year should be starting up soon - and it is also never too early to start thinking about what courses you may want to take next year.
Visit 'My Blue Print' (down below) and your Guidance Google Classroom for more details about deadlines and which courses will be running next year!
Reminder to keep in mind which courses you may need to take for graduation and/or post-secondary plans!
How do I switch to fully online? Will I need to call the school?
If you are looking to switch to fully online, you'll need to email guidance! Just keep in mind that there is already a large list of people trying to switch to online school, so it may not be possible to switch over right away (during Quad 3).
What are some clubs that are running for grade 9s?
On Instagram, refer to our "clubs" highlights to check out what clubs are currently running!
