Peer Tutoring is an opportunity to earn a high school credit by working in a grade 9 or 10 classroom where your primary role is to work along side students and help them to succeed.

What are the prerequisites for peer tutoring?
What are the prerequisites for peer tutoring?
While you may select any subject, you should have an interest in and an aptitude for the subject you choose. Your application answers will show this and we will check your marks from previous courses that relate. You must have earned at least 70% in your chosen subject so that you are able to confidently assist students in the class.

Successful peer tutors must be reliable role models who act responsibly, have excellent attendance, a good office record and a willingness to demonstrate effective people skills. Be honest when completing your application.

Peer Tutoring and SHSM information
Students in SHSM programs must earn two Cooperative Education Credits
Peer Tutoring will qualify as one Cooperative Education Credit
To earn two credits, Peer Tutoring would need to be earned in two different semesters
Students may also take two periods of traditional co-op at a community placement in addition to peer tutoring

How to Apply to Peer Tutoring
Choose CWE 2O8 in your course selection
Complete the application form on the left
Choose two Teacher References (good practice is asking the person to include them as a reference)
You will be interviewed in April to determine the suitability of Peer Tutoring as one of your courses
You will receive notice of your success in May
Subject matches and conflicts will be determined
Successful placements will be posted in June
You begin your Peer Tutoring class the first day of the semester if your class falls in Semester one.
