-How You Can Help Your Writing Tutor:
1) Schedule an appointment. Do not drop in right before the assignment is due and claim that “there was no tutor available.” You will be penalized for procrastination.
2) Explain the assignment and have the rubric available for the tutor. Do not expect the tutor to know your professor/class/assignment as there are hundreds of students at NSCC taking the same course as you all with different instructors who have different requirements.
3) Have a draft ready. You should come prepared with a professionally structured idea.
4) Prepare yourself for honest edits to your work and do not take the suggestions personally. These are paid professionals, not your friends. Remember that their feedback is constructive and confidential.
5) Make a list of questions for the tutor reviewing your work.
6) If you are using a virtual tutor, use netiquete: Do not type in all caps. Be sure to capitalize and punctuate so that your requests are clear. Use a respectful tone even if you disagree with your tutor. Be prepared to discuss your writing so you are not wasting your tutor’s time. Thank your tutor when you sign off.
