Hi, I am Mr. Dunn. I am excited to be beginning my third year as the carpentry teacher here at Discovery Charter School. My goal is to give the student some experience with basic hand and power tools. Carpentry class is an opportunity for many students who have never worked with tools to gain an understanding of how they work and the preferred tool to use for a given task. I grew up in West Philadelphia. I had an understanding of many tools at a young age because my hobbies included building r/c cars and aircraft.
Imagination and creativity are always encouraged in my classroom. There are also a wide range of mathematics covered in carpentry class. A general understanding of basic Arithmetic, fractions, geometry, algebra 1, algebra 2 and trigonometry will be taught. Learning math is akin to learning problem solving skills. In carpentry problem solving and out of the box thinking are paramount.
