Mrs. Zimmerman M.S., M.Ed., Multicultural Education Concentration; Histories, Cultures
and Contributions of Groups
Twenty years in Education: Teaching; 16 yrs., Parent Ombudsman; 2 yrs., Houseparent, and Education Program Manager (Dawn Staley Foundation)
My vision is to leverage my avid teaching, business, management, and online technology skills to assist DCS in creating successful Family and Community engagement opportunities that effectively meet the educational goals for our children.
My mission is to employ mutual respect, empathy and understanding in order to secure our scholars safety, well-being, and academic Success. Since children learn by developing strong cognitive skills, my teaching philosophy is to assure our children learn through various developmentally appropriate and intentional learning experiences.
My teaching philosophy utilizes routines and schedules that are meticulously followed so our students will know exactly what is expected of them. Constructive verbal and nonverbal cues
are given to sincerely acknowledge periods of stress, challenging behaviors (if/when applicable; by activating self-regulation exercises), life transitions and crises by helping the children to verbalize their feelings appropriately.
Multicultural activities are employed to develop great self-esteem and life skills. I encourage cooperation and respect through small group activities and games that invite teamwork experiences. These valuable observations will allow me to record what I see, use that data to plan more wonderful experiences and encourage
our scholars to be enthusiastic life-long learners.
