Welcome to VALE's Work-Based Learning.
We are grateful you are here as a parent, student, community member or long-time industry partner! You are a vital part of this work. We believe that in order to prepare students for an ever-changing world of work, we need them to engage in industry early and often. That is why VALE has curated a four-year work-based learning suite to build career awareness, employability skills, purpose-driven perspective, and social capital.
Work-Based Learning is the link between school and work, providing opportunities during high school to experience real-world learning in the workforce with local employers, either at a work-site or at VALE.
Through a curated four-year suite involving career panels, field experiences, externships (extended job shadow, volunteerism) and internships (hands-on, project-driven), students learn first-hand the skills to create their own purposeful pathway.
WHY IS THIS IMPORTANT?
It is vital that students see the connection between what they learn in the classroom and what skills they need for the world of work. There has been a disconnect between traditional classrooms and the workforce; work-based learning experiences help bridge the gap.
Students learn not only industry-specific skills but also professional/essential skills valued by employers like communication, collaboration, teamwork, resilience, and work-ethic.
