YES! And we have audiobooks, DVDs, and graphic novels, too! You don't even need your badge. Feel free to browse the back room for nonfiction and audiovisual materials.
You can search the library catalog using keywords, title, author, subject, or series. In the search frame, there are fields for which schools you want to search. If you don't find what you're looking for at ThunderRidge, try changing the location. If you put a hold on something from another school, it will be sent here. We'll let you know when it arrives, and we will send it back for you, too. To search the District Library Media Center, check the box for it under Location.
You can also narrow down your search by Material Type if you are looking specifically for a book, DVD, ebook, etc. (If you search only electronic books, I recommend repeating the search in the Gale Virtual Library or in Overdrive. You will get more results because Gale/Overdrive searches the full text, while the library catalog will only search the MARC record fields. That means fewer results for your keywords.)
You can do this yourself by logging into the library catalog using your universal login. When you find the book you want to request, there will be a red Book It button. Follow the steps to place it on hold, and we will let you know when it arrives. (Plan on at least a week, though it sometimes takes longer.) You can also ask us to find materials and put holds on materials.
Stop by the library! We can help you reset your password, and it only takes a minute.
(No one does, really. It's complicated.) Even copyright lawyers can't promise someone that Fair Use will apply and hold up in court. But yes, the librarian is the right person to ask for guidance! There are resources on the Teacher Resources page that you can use, and I am happy to discuss and guide you through the process.
*Disclaimer--librarians are not copyright lawyers*
No! For the sake of efficiency and organization, we ask that teachers schedule a time here and bring their students in to return books. Alternatively, students may return books themselves outside of class. See the Teacher Resources page for more info.
Great question! First, sign up using the link on the Intranet for a day and time (please call us if you sign up last minute!) Add your name and number of students. Next, remember to let us know if you have special circumstances. For example: Do you need the presentation corner? Do you plan to arrive later in the class period? Will you only stay half the class period? Would you like to use PostGrad?
First, you must see library staff to get training on the computer cart system. Then, sign up using the links on the Intranet. Make sure to add your name and room number. The carts will be in the library if they're not in a scheduled classroom. Log into the library catalog and check the devices out to your students.
Check the devices in at the end of class. After your class, check the cart schedule and send the cart to the next classroom. If no one is signed up after you, return the cart to the library. Students may pick up and deliver carts, but please choose reliable, responsible students!
ALWAYS check the condition of your cart before sending it on! Make sure the scanner stays with the cart. Carts must be returned ASAP at the end of the day, and at the latest by 3:15 pm.
We love questions! Stop by, email, or call us!
