It is important to establish consistent homework habits. Homework provides an opportunity for students to reinforce classroom learning, develop responsibility, and learn how to budget their time. It also helps you, as a parent, to stay connected with the learning that is happening in the classroom and provides you with an opportunity to see how your child is understanding these concepts. Homework will be graded based on completion. If you find that your child is struggling with an assignment, and truly providing their best effort, abandon the assignment and write me a note. I do not typically assign homework over the weekend.
It is the expectation of 6th grade, that students record their homework daily in their planner. Homework will be given every school night, Monday thru Thursday.
Math Facts
It is strongly encouraged that students practice their math facts 2-3 times a week. Practice can be formal with flash cards or other platforms; or can be as informal as asking your student facts as you are driving, cooking, getting ready, etc.
Math
There will be a math homework page assigned almost every night, except Friday. Students will rip the page out of their workbooks in class or bring home a printed sheet, depending on the lesson that day.
iReady
It is expected that 45 minutes of iReady reading and math lessons are completed each week. Time will be given during the school day to meet this iReady instructional expectation, but homework time may also need to be spent to meet the 45 minute expectation for each subject. Please reach out if this requirement is not working for your student.
Occasional Extra Help
As we work on projects, students may have assignments that need additional time at home to complete. When working on major writing assignments, students will need parent support in proofreading and editing.
