I am so excited to be your child's 6th grade teacher this year. It's going to be a great year of academic growth, friendships, new adventures and discoveries.
This is my 4th year teaching 6th grade here at Summit View. I taught Kindergarten and 2nd grade over the last 14 years. It's really fun getting to be with the kiddos I had in 2nd grade again. 4 years of growth brings a lot of changes but their sweet hearts and smiles are still the same. Before being a teacher I was a Human Resources Supervisor for Magic Mountain in California.
I am the blessed mother of 3 great kids. Josh is 26 and served our country as a United States Marine. Ethan is 23 and is currently a Navy Airman. I am so proud of my young men who have given up so much to serve our country. My beautiful daughter Cassidy is 20 and just completed her Medical Assistant program. I currently have 3 dogs and a cat who keep me busy and enrich my life. I am also a cancer survivor (15 years now) and am so grateful to continue on this journey we call life. It's pretty great!
I was born and raised in Southern California, but I've loved living in Colorado for the last 20 years. In my free time, I enjoy walking my dogs, reading with my bookclub, playing games with my kids, paddle-boarding, and spending time with my family and friends.
As we navigate this final year of Elementary school together, I only ask that we have an open line of communication. I am 100% invested in working with you to ensure your child receives the support needed to thrive in 6th grade. The best way to reach me is kdleonard@dcsdk12.org. Sixth grade is a big year for learning responsibility and accountability, academic growth, as well as social and emotional growth. Supporting your child in establishing routines at home and at school will help them successfully navigate this year and prepare for middle school. I ask that you please keep me informed about issues that may impact your child at school so we can work together to make this a great year!
Something new to all of us this year is that 6th grade will be departmentalizing. I will be teaching Math, Mrs. Bittick will be teaching Language Arts and Mrs. Brandt will be teaching Social Studies, Science, and Spelling. We are excited to embrace this new learning process because we feel that it will help our students be more successful as they begin their transition to Middle School.
