Homework

The most important homework students can do is read.

In the 5/6 academy, students are required to read at home 30 minutes a night/210 minutes per week and write a daily response to their reading. Families may divide these minutes however works for you over 7 days, to allow for individual schedules. Additionally, students complete and turn in a 5-star reading response (see resource below) completed at home Monday through Thursday to be checked Tuesday through Friday mornings of every week. Students may choose any question from the list below to respond to.

• If students do not finish their assignments in school they may be asked to complete the assignments at home.
• Teachers may work together with families to assign homework that is unique for a student. If you as a family are interested in this option please contact your child's teacher to start the conversation.
• Students who choose not to complete their assignments in a timely manner will be asked to attend Study Hall. Study Hall takes place on Tuesdays and Thursdays during lunch and recess. During this time, students will have the opportunity to complete assignments with the assistance of all five teachers.
