Newslea - This site offers free news articles for teachers and students. With hundreds of articles {updated weekly}, articles on Science, Kids, Money, Law, Health, Arts, etc. With a free account, you can view the articles online or print them out. Every article is available in 4-5 different Lexile Levels that you choose using the blue menu to the right on each article!
ReadWorks- fiction and nonfiction articles that center on a specific reading skill. With an advanced search browser, you can sort articles by keyword, Lexile Level, Domain, and Reading Skill!
Dogon News - Great kid-level articles on interesting topics, and most articles include pictures and some other types of text features like charts/graphs, maps, etc. They list vocabulary words on the side and often geography links to see where the article is talking about. You can sort by grade range for articles. Some articles even have related videos attached (you could request them to be open on the county tech site link here if they are blocked.)
Tween Tribune - This is a free online educational service offered by the Smithsonian for use by K-12 grade teachers and students. TTribune consists of daily news sites for kids, tweens, and teens, and includes text, photos, graphics, and audio and/or video materials prepared by the Smithsonian and others about current events, history, art, culture and science. If you register for a free account, you can access Lexile levels of articles, lessons, and instructional and assessment tools.
Think Cerca - is very similar to NewsELA. It has a different mix of nonfiction articles. This site has an audio function that can read the article to struggling readers, and an embedded dictionary to help with vocabulary.
