Absences
If your child will be absent for more than 3 days, please notify us as soon as possible, as well as the office. Since most school-work requires teacher instruction, there are some lessons and activities that cannot be made up. We recommend the student read their independent novels while they are absent.
Fidgets & Toys
Fidgets can be beneficial tools for students who need support with focusing and/or regulation of emotions. Unfortunately, there have been many incidents with fidgets being used inappropriately as toys which has disrupted the learning environment over. 5th grade as a team has decided that fidgets are not allowed in the classroom. This decision is backed by our administration. Students with legal documents (i.e., Individualized Education Plan (IEP) or a 504) that specify the student needs a fidget to support them with their academic achievement will be allowed to use their fidgets as outlined.
Birthdays
We would love to celebrate your child’s birthday as a class! We currently have 24 students in our classroom, so please bring enough for everyone. Treats should be free of nuts/made in a nut free facility (Oreos are a safe choice), and do not have to be food items (i.e., pencils, small trinkets). Bringing a treat is certainly not required though!
*Students with summer break birthdays are more than welcome to bring in treats on what is their half birthday. Birthdays during weeks off may be celebrated before or after the break. Please just let me know ahead of time.*
Snacks
Students will be able to have a snack. Candy is not an acceptable snack choice, so please ensure that your student is bringing healthy snacks with them. We have do severe nut allergies, so please do not send your student with any type of nut for snack or lunch.
Water Bottles
Students should bring a spill proof water bottle each morning with ONLY WATER. No flavored or colored water is allowed in the classroom. We do have a water refilling station for students to fill their own bottles.
