I wanted to share a little bit about our approach to homework this year. I know how busy your family life is and how much your kiddo has been working hard with us all day, which is why homework is optional. It is a low-stress way for you to get a peek into the skills we're working on in the classroom!
Each week, your child will bring home a homework packet. The cover sheet will give you a quick rundown of what we're focusing on for math and UFLI (our phonics program). I also highly encourage a little bit of reading—just 5-10 minutes a night! This can be you reading to them, them reading to you, or even listening to an audiobook. It all counts!
To help with the UFLI portion, please check out the video below for some tips on how to do it at home. You're welcome to send the completed packet back to school on Friday.
As always, please don't hesitate to reach out if you have any questions! We're here to help!
In first grade, homework is optional unless otherwise communicated by your kiddo’s teacher. We understand and value the importance of time spent outside of school—whether it’s sports, activities, playtime, or simply enjoying time with family. Life is busy, and we truly honor that!
Homework is never meant to be stressful. Instead, it serves as a window into our daily classroom practices, giving you a glimpse of what we’re working on and how you can support your child’s learning at home—if and when it fits your schedule.
Homework packets will go home every Monday and can be returned each Friday. Complete what works best for your family, and feel free to skip what doesn’t. Your support—big or small—means the world to us!
Dear First Grade Families,
Can you believe we are already approaching the end of April? This year has flown by, and your kiddos have grown so much!
I am writing to share some exciting news regarding our weekly routine. The week of April 20th will be our very last homework packet for the school year!
As we head into late April and the beginning of May, our focus will shift toward:
iReady Testing: We want to ensure the students are well-rested and have plenty of "brain power" for our end-of-year assessments.
Winding Down: With the school year coming to a close, we want to give the kiddos a well-deserved break to recharge and enjoy their afternoons.
Celebrating Success: Ending formal homework now allows families more time to enjoy the spring weather and celebrate all the hard work the kiddos have put in since August.
We are so proud of the progress our first graders have made. Thank you for your incredible support at home with these weekly packets—you’ve been wonderful partners in your kiddo’s learning journey!
Please do not hesitate to let me know if you have any questions!
