In education, an intervention is a specific, structured, targeted support to help students improve academically, behaviorally, or socially. While most interventions assist struggling learners in closing achievement gaps, interventions can also be adapted to challenge and engage students who are achieving and surpassing grade level goals. These focused strategies can take the form of special teaching methods, modified lesson plans, or behavioral support plans, and they are implemented to close learning gaps, build skills, and improve engagement.
My focus is on a specific skill deficits in math and reading, with the aim to teach new skills, build fluency, and help students apply skills in new situations to close achievement gaps. For gifted and talented students, the purpose of an intervention is not remediation, but acceleration and enrichment. Without appropriate interventions, advanced students can become bored, disengaged, and may develop poor study habits or behavioral problems.
Progress monitoring is crucial to assess the effectiveness of the intervention. I will partner with collaborative grade level teams who will use student data to create student groups that will be fluid; providing necessary adjustments. As a team, we will share resources and methods to improve student achievement.
RTI (Response to Intervention) is a tiered approach to instruction and intervention that promotes early identification of students who may require additional support or challenge in academic areas. Support is provided to students through evidence and research-based instruction, assessment and intervention. Our school-based teams pride themselves on working collaboratively to know your child well. Your child’s social, emotional and academic well-being is our highest priority. As a result, we continually research effective practices and strategies to meet the needs of our student population.
