It is expected that students will act kindly and safely in our classroom and school. this means that kind words and actions will be expected at all times. generally i make every effort to handle occasional issues in class when they occur, but in the event that further action is needed, i generally will put communication from me to you in students planners or an email. if the behavior is a physical issue (hitting, acts of aggression towards other students) that is an immediate referral to the office. classroom consequences include "reflective walks" at recess if needed. we do not take recess time to sit out but instead if constant reminders have been given, they will be asked to take a short walk on the playground and then check in with me after to discuss what they could do differently if needed. i of course am always willing to meet in person or on the phone to discuss as well if further clarification/explanation is needed of an incident.
we use a classroom ticket system in our class. It is a way to use positive reinforcement and something students look forward to. kids can earn tickets by getting their planners signed nightly, bringing folders back and when we see behavior that goes above and beyond.
