I believe the foundation of great education and memorable, life changing learning experiences, is embedded in the compelling topics by which reading, writing, mathematics, social studies, and science is delivered to students. As a credentialed EL Education school, we use expeditions and modules, case studies and "slices," to create those learning experiences. Listed below are the compelling topics we will be using as our vehicle to achieve great education and compelling, life changing experiences.
Stories of Human Rights
What are human rights, and how do real people and fictional characters respond when those rights are threatened? In this module, students develop their ability to read and understand complex text as they consider this question.
Biodiversity of the Rainforest
In this module, students read to build knowledge about the rainforest and analyze author's craft in narrative writing to build proficiency in writing first-person narratives about the rainforest.
Athlete Leaders of Social Change
In this module, students consider the factors that contribute to the success of a professional athletes as leaders of social change. They read about a number of professional athletes who have been leaders of social change, beginning with Jackie Robinson.
The Impact of Natural Disasters
In this module, students read literary and informational texts to understand the impact of natural disasters on people and places.
