This Week: November 2nd - 5th

Literacy

This week, we will continue Unit 3 of our Benchmark curriculum, Government in Action. Students will read an excerpt from the novel Holes and analyze how government systems and authority are represented in literature.

Students will also begin researching their chosen Colorado issue. They will investigate the causes and effects of the issue, as well as how the government has responded or worked to address it. This research will serve as the foundation for their next informational essay, where they will organize their findings using our TIDE writing format.

Math

We will continue strengthening our division skills by dividing larger numbers using the partial quotients method. Students will practice breaking larger numbers into manageable parts while building a deeper understanding of how division works.

Keep practicing those multiplication and division facts at home! Strong fact fluency makes solving larger division problems much easier. Our goal is for students to complete approximately 50 math facts in 3 minutes by Winter Break.

Social Studies

This week, we will wrap up our classroom lawmaking simulation by voting on the bills students created. Each proposed law must receive a two-thirds majority vote from our classroom Congress and be signed by the President (me!) before officially becoming a classroom law!

We will then continue our Civics unit by exploring the responsibilities of local, state, and national governments. Students will learn which levels of government are responsible for different services and decisions and how they work together to support their communities.

Last Week

We have had another successful week in Mrs. Anderson's 4th grade class. Most of the things that we have done include learning about the government. One of those things are new class laws.We were recently put into groups and came up with laws . Next we present the  laws and present them. Then the president either passes the law or veto it.
