This week we will end Unit One of our Benchmark Curriculum with our end of unit Assessment. With this assessment, students will read multiple stories and answer comprehension questions about them. They will also have a variety of grammar questions around sentence fragments. They will also have to type a multi-paragraph essay about the behaviors and physical features of the Colorado big horned sheep.
In math, we will also be assessing Unit One concepts. We will review for the assessment and pull small groups on Monday and part of Tuesday and begin the assessment on Tuesday. We will also begin a cummulative project called, The Million Dollar Project. Students will have a budget of 1 million dollars that they will have to spend with specific guidelines. This project integrates math, writing, research and creativity.
We will continue our life science unit this week with a "Create an Animal" project. Students will design their own animal using the internal and external structures of 3 existing animals. This project also integrates creativity, art and writing.
We had a nice week. We read a new story called The Secret Spring. We also read an article about chipmunks and watched a video about them, then we wrote a muti paragraph essay about them altogether. This was practice for next week's writing assessment. In science we learned about adaptations and we also learned about structures and functions of plants and animals
