This week we take our iReady Reading and Math Diagnostic. during both our reading and part of our math block..Students have worked hard all semester and now it's time to show what they know. iReady scores will be sent home after winter break, but if you would like to see your child's report prior to that, just reach out and I will email it to you.Â
In math, we will finish up Unit 3, which focuses on larger multiplication and division problems. In fourth grade, it is important that students learn the conceptual understanding of larger multiplication and division problems. To teach these concepts, we always start with area/box models and partial product and partial quotient. Please use the linked videos to see these strategies for better understanding of the homework. This week we will continue to convert units of continue to practice dividing 4 digit numbers and learn how to solve problems involving area and perimeter
We will continue our Earth Science unit over the next two weeks. In this unit, students will learn about renewable and non-renewable resources, erosion and weathering, and different types of rocks and how they're formed.
This week was awesome but very busy too. We ended our Benchmark unit by taking a quiz and rewriting a new story about a dog that takes all of her time to protect her house but then she gets punished for protecting her house. We had to write it from a different perspective, This week we continued to read How To Steal a Dog during read aloud. Now Georgina stole Willy the dog. Monday we went to the library and we read a book about a snowflake wanting to stop falling and every time it is about to land the wind blows it away but then one day it lands on a tiny Christmas tree a little girl found.Â
