Leader in Me

Dear Parents,

Our 1st grade classrooms are using Franklin Covey’s The Leader in Me program as an introduction to personal leadership. It teaches 21st century leadership and life skills to students and creates a culture of student empowerment based on the idea that every child can be a leader. All students have the capacity to lead in their own lives and affect those around them by making positive choices. Written to appeal to their grade level, students are presented with fun activities designed to get them thinking.

Eagle Ridge and our classroom theme for this year centers around the book, "The 7 Habits for Happy Kids." Our Class will become familiar with setting personal goals, being proactive versus reactive, humility, how to prioritize, become an independent thinker, gain confidence, learn about and practice effective communication, valuing differences in themselves and others, and how to achieve balance. These will become topics that we will discuss regularly throughout the year.

Your child is about to embark on an exciting journey and our hope is that you will ask your child how he/she is doing along the way. Having your child reteach the content to you will give him/her an even deeper understanding and will give both of you an opportunity to learn together!
