Meet Mrs. Miller

My name is Jennifer Miller, and I am the Gifted & Talented (GT) Facilitator at Iron Horse Elementary School.  This is my fifth year as the GT Facilitator, and I am also responsible for the technology at Iron Horse. The 2023-2024 school year will mark my 23rd year in education!

I earned my Colorado Provisional Teaching License through the University of Colorado at Denver in May of 2002.  In the spring of 2009, I earned my Master’s Degree in Curriculum and Instruction with an emphasis in mathematics at the University of Colorado at Denver.  Most recently, in the spring of 2016, I earned an endorsement on my teaching license in the area of Gifted and Talented education.

While in the classroom, I was a GT cluster teacher for eight years, working closely with the GT Facilitator at my previous school to program and meet the needs of my gifted learners.  In addition, I was the GT Facilitator at my previous school for two years.  This is my fifth year as the GT Lead for the Legend feeder area as well.  I have participated in a great deal of professional development, workshops, and conferences specializing in the area of giftedness.  I have a passion to teach these particular learners, and I am excited and honored to work with your kiddo this school year!

I am originally from Minnesota, but have lived in Colorado for over 30 years now.  I enjoy participating in sports, including softball and volleyball.  During the warmer months, I love camping, riding our ATVs, and soaking up as much sunshine as I can.  In the colder months, I love spending time in the beautiful mountains.  I also enjoy reading, scrapbooking, and spending time with my younger sister, Makayla.

My family is a very important part of my life.  I have been married to my husband, Chuck, for 20 years.  We live in Parker with our two children, Zechariah and Rebekah.  Zechariah is 18 years old and graduated from Legend High School this past May.  Rebekah is 14 years old and a sophomore at Legend High School.  We stay very busy watching them play sports, for most of the year.  Zechariah is a former baseball player, who had to retire his cleats when he had shoulder surgery to repair a labrum tear.  We miss watching him play ball. Rebekah plays softball for Legend in the fall months and her club softball team, Colorado Stars, during the spring and summer months.  This past year, we traveled to California, Arizona, Oklahoma, and Georgia to watch her play ball!

As an educator, it is my job to meet the individual needs of each of my students.  I am dedicated and committed to giving everything I can to my students.  I want to ensure the success of all the students in my groups by providing differentiated instruction and making accommodations and modifications whenever necessary.  I want to help your child learn in any way possible, and any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.  My teaching philosophy is based around the saying, “Fairness is not everyone getting the same thing.  Fairness is everyone getting what they need.”  My instruction, independent practice, and feedback looks differently for each student because each student learns and responds differently.

If you have additional questions in regards to GT programming and/or technology at Iron Horse,  please do not hesitate to contact me.
