Howdy! My name is Melissa Ellerson, and I am thrilled to be starting my fourth year at CRUN teaching kindergarten. I am a Science of Reading enthusiast. I am Orton-Gillingham trained and use UFLI and Heggerty in our classroom. I am so excited to be a part of your child's reading journey.
About Me
In November 2020, my family relocated to Highlands Ranch from Southern California. I am a graduate of California State University, Fullerton, where I earned my Bachelor's degree in Liberal Studies with an Emphasis in Elementary Education. I have my Master of Science Degree in Curriculum and Instruction. When I arrived in CO, I was a substitute teacher at schools all around Douglas County. I was in search of the best school to plant roots at. I knew on my second day of subbing at CRUN that this was where I needed to be. Eager to become a part of this incredible community, I accepted a kindergarten teaching position in 2023. I am elated that I get to teach my favorite grade at my dream school. There is truly something special about the CRUN family. I am grateful that you and I both get to be a part of it.
My husband Sean and I have two children, Betty (16) and Emmett (13). Betty can often be found with her nose in a book about some obscure animal. Emmett is typically leaving a trail of ingredients behind from his science experiments. We also have a sweet kitty cat and a fairly naughty labrador.
Moving to Colorado has provided our family with new opportunities to explore the great outdoors. We love camping, skiing, and all things water-related. I enjoy antiquing, musicals, and crafting.
My goal in our family, as well as the classroom, is to foster the importance of community. I teach about honesty, kindness, and being helpful. I encourage cooperative behaviors so that we all can learn together in a safe and happy environment.
I am excited to meet your family. It is going to be a fantastic year!
