F.A.Q.s

Mr. Beckett's FAQs (THIS WILL BE UPDATED AS QUESTIONS COME IN)

According to the portal, a lot of my assignments are due at the end of the quarter instead of on specific days. Why is that?

Technically, the way our standards based grade system works, you have until the end of the quarter to get all of your work turned in (because you have until the quarter's end to meet the standards), and because all of my classes work at a different pace, it is much easier and simpler to let you know that they are due at the end of the quarter. However, don't think that this means that you don't have to do any work until the last week. It is always best to complete your work as soon as it is assigned. If work is consistently delayed, it will impact your work habits, and in effect, your work habits grade. I will try my best to keep my calendars updated so you know when work is, was, or will be assigned.

If I don't have an Apple computer at home, how can I do the homework?

What homework? I don't give homework very often for that reason. Apart from getting things signed by parents, usually there may be only one or two things assigned as homework. Most of the work that students do at home is usually from absences, a lack of getting work done during class time, or wanting to put in extra work.

Are there movie editing programs or apps that we can use at home?

Yes. There are lots. However they might not be compatible with the software that we use in the classroom. If you can get a finished product into Quicktime format (.mov) or anything compatible with iTunes, then we can then import it into our program, Final Cut Pro, at school (Click here to see a list of compatible media). One of the programs that you can use at home is Windows Movie Maker (free download for Windows). A list of these programs for Windows can be found by clicking here, and for Mac, click here. Keep in mind that you can't download and install programs on most Chromebook computers.

Where can I find the link for the Tech Survey?

Right here. :)
