Executive Functioning Concepts

Executive Functioning Connections are incorporated into every lesson in Multimedia the first quarter of the semester, and are reinforced during the second quarter of the semester. Students may never make another movie in their lifetime, but the following skills will be used in every day for the rest of their lives. :)

Executive function and self-regulation skills are the mental processes that enable us to plan, focus attention, remember instructions, and juggle multiple tasks successfully. Just as an air traffic control system at a busy airport safely manages the arrivals and departures of many aircraft on multiple runways, the brain needs this skill set to filter distractions, prioritize tasks, set and achieve goals, and control impulses (Center on the Developing Child).

The Skills highlighted in yellow below are a focus of MRMS and can be used to encompass, so to speak, the rest of the skills. For example, if a student is weak in time management due dates might cause them to have anxiety or low emotional control (ie. bursting into tears when having forgotten to study for a test).
