Reminder: Please send your child in appropriate attire for school. As it is now fall in Colorado, the weather can be quite unpredictable at times. Our class will continue to play outside when weather permits. Please send your child to school wearing clothes that are appropriate for the fall/winter temperatures and ensure they have a jacket or hoodie every day. Please label all jackets, hats, gloves, scarves, etc. with his/her name. Also, when the snow hits, please send your student a pair of indoor shoes to wear in the classroom. Outdoor snow boots are not allowed on the rug with the materials. In addition to weather related clothing, please continue to ensure your child is wearing non-marking athletic shoes on their scheduled P.E. and Sports Skills days so they can participate in their activities. Refer to our Specials Schedule above for more details on your child's specific P.E. day.

9th Annual Post-Halloween Candy Drive Community Project
Our class annually collects leftover Halloween candy from the DCSM community and donates it to the Help and Hope Center in Castle Rock. The Help and Hope Center uses the candy in toiletry packets/backpacks they make for the homeless and for community meal programs they run, specifically at Christmas. Each year, we donate approximately 650 pounds of candy. They use this candy the entire year! This is our 9th year doing the candy drive -- parents prepare for and look forward to it. The best part is that it's a very easy event to carry out and very much appreciated and needed by our community.

6 Strategies to Improve Reading Comprehension
We encourage you to read this great article from Scholastic. Developing reading comprehension skills is incredibly important for early readers, starting as early as picture books. As school-aged children get older, better comprehension will help them understand textbooks, newspapers, and other more complex texts.

For those of you whom I have not met, my name is Lynn Booton, or as the children call me, Ms. Lynn. I have 21 years of Montessori experience, 18 of them right here at DCS Montessori! I received my Colorado state teaching license 15 years ago and my American Montessori Society teaching credential 14 years ago. My mission is to provide a safe, positive, and caring environment to inspire a love of learning. I look forward to community building, cooperative problem solving, engaging lessons, and a well-prepared environment to enable each child to blossom to their full potential. I enjoy living in the beautiful community of Castle Rock with my husband, my girls, and my grandson. Our leisure time includes lots of reading as well as outdoor activities, including cycling, swimming, hiking, and playing!

Hello, my name is Andrea, and I am excited to be working with Ms. Lynn and the children this year in Lower Elementary. I am currently pursuing my Elementary Education Teaching degree and have a deep love of learning that I hope to encourage in the children. I have one son at DCS Montessori, who is also in Lower El. We love our school and being a part of this amazing community. Together, my husband, son, and I live in Castle Rock with our two miniature dachshunds. In our free time, we love to play games, explore, camp, fish, and travel as a family. I also love to cook, bake, garden, read, and craft.
