Gifted programming looks different depending on the grade level.
For most kindergarten and first grade, I work mostly with the teachers and provide them with resources to use for our advanced learners. I may start pulling out small groups once the school year gets going....once a week for math and once a week for reading.
For most second graders, I will wait a little bit before I start pulling out groups (again, once a week for math and once a week for reading). All second graders in DCSD take CogAT (Cognitive Abilities Test) in February. This helps us determine who might be a good candidate for gifted programming.
Third, fourth, and fifth graders are pulled out once a week for reading, twice a week for math and once a week for Think Tank (please see that page for more details).
Sixth graders will be pulled out once a week for Think Tank and then students are clustered (all GT students in the same rotation) and I go into the math and reading classes about 2-3 times a week each.
All pull out times are during Bison time and students will NOT be missing any instruction while they are with me. If you feel your student is gifted, please see the referral form at the top of the Gifted Resources Page linked above.
