Wed., Jan. 6, 6:30-8:45pm, Highlands Ranch High School - Sectionals

Fri., Jan. 8, 6:30-8:45pm, Highlands Ranch High School - with guest conductor

Sat., Jan. 9, 1-6pm, Highlands Ranch High School - with guest conductor

Mon. Jan 11, 10am-12pm, 2:00-2:30pm, + 7pm Concert, Boettcher Concert Hall

All students auditioning and participating must be members of their high school music program.

Our Final Rehearsal and Performance will be at Boettcher Concert Hall - 1000 14th St, Denver, CO 80202

Audition Music

Scales

• Please play all 3 scales as listed on the excerpts & scales page for your instrument.

Sight Reading

• A sight reading excerpt for your specific instrument will be provided at the audition 

  • You will have 30-45 seconds to look at the music before performing it

  • You may NOT play the excerpt during that time. Singing/clapping/counting are allowed.

  • You are responsible for your own tempo. Your judge will not count you off.

• If you would like practice, use Level 4 exercises on Sight Reading Factory

  1. NOTE: There is a PUBLISHED mistake in the saxophone 2 excerpt (measure 39 beat 2 should be an F#, not G#). This was a publisher's mistake when adapting the etude from its original form into the Voxman Selected Studies compilation.  Students can play the note as G# (as notated) or F# (as the composer intended) and their score will NOT be impacted regardless of how the pitch is performed.

• Trumpet 

  1. NOTE: The grace notes in measure 6 of the first etude sound better as E-D-C than C-D-C.  Students can play them as notated or with this change and their score will NOT be impacted regardless of how the grace notes are performed.

  1. NOTE: There is an error in the metric modulation at measure 30 of the timpani excerpt which should be eighth note equals sixteenth note (not eighth to eighth).
