Welcome to the 2020-2021 school year at Gold Rush Elementary! My name is Heather Burggraff and I am so excited to become a part of your educational journey!

This will be my second year teaching 5th grade at GRE and I am so proud that I am a member of our school. I began my career as a 4-6th grade teacher in Monterey County, California nearly 20 years ago. I also taught 5th grade in Fairfax County, Virginia just outside of Washington, DC. I have two wonderful boys. Dawson, age 6, will be attending 1st grade at Gold Rush and Davis, age 4, is in preschool. My husband, David, recently retired after serving 27 years in the US Navy and has begun working as a Federal Employee. We are excited to be a member of the great community of Parker, CO.

Most of my time is centered around activities with our young boys. We love to take walks, play games, and laugh together. My personal hobbies include sewing, puzzles, and watching movies. I’ve recently found a new passion for gardening and have loved watching my vegetables and sunflowers grow this summer!

As we enter this year, I recognize that our classroom and school procedures will look different than previous years. I am passionate about teaching and learning, nothing will take from that! We will have so much fun this year with a focus on being thoughtful, collaborative, and creative. My goal is to help all students succeed academically, socially and emotionally in an environment that is engaging, fun, and safe. As we experience this new adventure together, you can support our classroom by encouraging your student to maintain good hand hygiene and a positive, flexible attitude. I am here to support you and your family in all ways possible. Working together as a cohesive team will ensure that your child has a successful year as they prepare for middle school. Communication is very important to me and to the success of your child. E-mail is typically the best way to reach me. I want it to be a memorable last year at Gold Rush and a fun learning experience, even with the unique challenges we face together. I can't wait for them to experience all of the fun and exciting lessons and activities that I have planned!

I am looking forward to meeting you and your child at our meet and greet. If you are not able to attend, or feel more comfortable meeting remotely, I am more than happy to chat via Zoom (link will be provided before Wednesday). There are time slots allotted for virtual meetings only. If we need more of these time slots, please sign up closer to that 10:30 slot. It is supposed to be super hot that day and I would like to protect us all from the heat. Thank you for helping me out with this! Remember that all family members MUST wear a mask while on school grounds and social distancing (6ft) from other families and teachers. Supplies should not be brought to the meet and greet this year since we are not meeting in our classroom. If you are not able to attend, or feel more comfortable meeting remotely, I am more than happy to set aside some time for a call. Filling out a Student Information form will help me get to know your child and prepare for our talk at Meet the Teacher. I've included a few pictures of our classroom so you are able to see where your child will be spending his/her day. Students will be sitting at alternating seats according to cohort. Dots on the floor allow for social distancing during learning and line-up.

Have a great rest of your summer and I can’t wait to see you when school starts!
