September Library Fun!
Classes have settled into library routines and gotten the chance to enjoy library activities the past couple of weeks! A consistent class library schedule will be rolling out in the next two weeks. You can also visit this page to see when your child's class will be at the library. More info will be sent home soon.
3rd-5th grade read "The Bug Girl" by Sophia Spencer who published her book when she was 11-years-old! You are never too young to follow your passions and become a published author! The kids discussed their passions that they'd maybe want to read and learn more about this year!
We also read "This Very Tree" by Sean Rubin in remembrance of September 11th and discussed how peace, hope, love and resilience were all shown throughout the community in the aftermath of such tragedy.
K-2nd grade read "Pete the Cat and the Magic Sunglasses" by James Dean and they colored their our own magic sunglasses to cheer them up when feeling blue. We continue to practice using shelf-markers to find books on the shelf and checking out books at the checkout station. We also read the fiction story "The City Tree" by Shira Boss which explored how a special, colorful tree in a New York neighborhood become a source of love through all the seasons for a little girl. The colorful illustrations by Lorena Avarez throughout are so fun and engaging.
Puzzles, legos, games, coloring, and of course reading have all been a fun part of the kids' library time after book checkout.
The next two weeks we will be honoring National Hispanic Heritage Month and reading books by and about hispanic authors and cultures. We will also explore the Dewey Decimal system and library organization.
If your child has a library book that they'd like to recommend to their peers, they can fill out a BREgoodreads page to hang up in the library. (Recorded Book Talks will be coming soon!)
Road to the Rockies September reading logs will be due Friday, October 3rd! You can turn them into your classroom teacher or to the library. Keep reading and earning those minutes!
I have been having a blast in the library with all of the kids! I am so grateful to be here at BRE!
Love,
Mrs. Wells
First Book Checkout!
August 18-28th
I had so much fun meeting the classes these past couple of weeks!
Kids got a chance to come down and check out a book or two from the library the first couple weeks of school! We talked about book care and how to look at a book that is on the shelf using a shelf marker. We will continue to dive more into library routines, how to look up books, find books by call number, and how to self checkout in the next couple of weeks.
K through 2nd graders read aloud "A Book That Jake Borrowed" to learn how to care for library books (or how not to 😉).
3rd through 5th graders loved the book "The Book That Can Read Your Mind" and took turns being magicians themselves. This book is on Sora (check Resources on this site!) if they want to read it at home! They found out books are indeed magical! It is also a 2026 Colorado Children's Book Nominee.
*Books are typically due every two weeks, but can be renewed if a kid needs longer to finish. There are no library fines, unless a book is lost at the end of the year or damaged. The books checked out in August will be due the week of September 1st. Thank you!*
