Building literacy and language skills in kindergarten is so important.  Through skills gained in kindergarten and beyond, children will move  from learning how to read to reading to learn.  Our literacy block includes skills like:

- learning how to recognize, write, and use letters and sounds (one-to-one letter sound correspondence)

-practicing listening attentively and making connections to what is  being shared

-retelling and making predictions about stories

-obtaining and using new vocabulary

-tracking print and learning about parts & functions of books

-using phonemic knowledge to spell and construct basic sentences

-identifying and distinguishing between common genres

-comparing and contrasting thoughts and ideas found in our learning
