Welcome to Math! Please make sure you are getting help if and when you struggle.
Students AND Parents - a student has to try to fail this class. I know that sounds weird, but it's true! Let me explain...
If you are giving effort and showing some understanding even if it's wrong, you will receive a 50% at the lowest because the knowledge is emerging. I know that doesn't sound great but a 50% is WAY better than 20% and especially 0%! So, do NOT leave work blank or refuse to turn it in.
When you are struggling, please do the steps below:
Practicing outside of school for at least 25 minutes an evening
PASS your mandatory weekly iReady lesson(s); preferably with an 80% or higher (get help if you need help). Do more than two lessons a week. *iReady fills in the gaps you may have in math*
Come in for tutoring and work productively (whether it is with me, another math teacher, or a peer)
Create and USE your formula sheet
***REASSESS on any and all mastery checks you've received a 3.75 or lower; come in during tutoring, within 2 weeks of taking the original, with practice and new understanding to get a second chance
Actually FIX the mistakes I highlight on your Unit tests. I build in a reassessment opportunity on the unit test and highlight all your mistakes. Actually try to fix them!
PLEASE make sure you are doing what is asked of you and ASK questions.

Expectations
Be Punctual
Students are expected to come to class on time. We enter the classroom quietly and immediately get out the homework and complete the opener activity. If a student is late, s/he must get a tardy slip from the office before coming back to class.
Be Respectful to others, yourself, and all property
Students are expected to listen when spoken to and reply politely when appropriate. When Miss Hamzik is teaching, students are engaged by taking notes, asking questions, participating in discourse, assisting peers, and properly responding to directions. If an issue does arise, please politely address it with Miss Hamzik or another teacher in the classroom.
Our classroom has a flexible seating set up. First thing to know, this seating is a privilege. Students are to choose this seat everyday that will benefit themselves by helping them be the best learner. If the seating arrangement cannot be respected, then adjustments will be changed. Miss Hamzik along with the other teachers in the room have the right to move any student at any time and we will not be met with back talking of any kind.
We will be looking over and signing a flexible seating contract. Students will know and agree to the expectations before they are given the privilege.
Be Prepared
Students must have materials by the second week. Students must have a working pencil and eraser to write with and a scientific calculator to use every day.
If anyone needs help getting the required materials, please speak to me in private and I will assist. We will work to stay organized and keep important materials safely stored.
Be Safe
Our job is to challenge ourselves, persevere, and learn in this class and in all areas of school. Students will keep this focus and do what is necessary in class to be safe and keep the people around them safe.
Be the Best You
Come to class every day with a positive attitude and ready to be challenged, to make mistakes, to persevere, to help, and to learn.
We all have bad days but do not let that hinder you or the people around you. Please talk to me if you need anything and we will make it work.
