Understanding Matter (CHEMISTRY)
Unit 1
Lab Safety
Dos and Don'ts....
DO wear goggles
DO follow directions
DON'T drink out of glassware
DON'T stick your nose in the chemicals
DO be responsible, learn lots, & have fun!
States of Matter...and how does temperature affect particle movement?
Solids
Liquids
Gases
Atomic Structure
Atom Vocabulary
Reviewing the parts of an atom
Protons, Neutrons, Electrons... oh my!
How do you determine the number of protons, neutrons, and electrons by just looking at an element square in the periodic table?
EASY! Watch and find out.
Bohr's Models Instruction
Protons & Neutrons in the nucleus
Electrons in the energy levels
Only 2 electrons in the 1st energy level
8 electrons can go in the next few energy levels
Periodic Table Organization
Elements - What are they used for?
What kinds of things are made from different elements? Check out this cool resources to find out!
Chemical & Physical Changes
Law of Conservation of Mass
Chemical Reactions - Counting Atoms / Determining if equations are balanced
Remember that The Law of Conservation of Mass says that the Mass of the Reactants = the Mass of the Products. We need to count the number of atoms on both sides of an equation to determine if an equation is balanced or not.
