What is Grammargeddon?
Grammargeddon is a DnD writing activity that will force you to use your grammatical wits, imagination, and dystopian knowledge. Each day, we will start class with a grammar activity using our Sketchnotes. After that, we will focus on the dystopian journey of your character. During this time, we APPLY the grammar knowledge we gained and embed it into our story. By the journey's end, you have written an epic narrative that is BOTH engaging and grammatically accurate!
Rule #1-
Your story will be typed in the 3rd person past tense. Please avoid using 1st person point of view. This isn’t a story about you. It’s about YOUR CHARACTER.
3rd Person (GOOD): Joffrey plowed the muddy field in the early morning hours of dawn. His bones ached and his empty stomach rumbled as he dug at the cold, unforgiving earth.
1st Person (BAD): I plowed the muddy field. Man, I’m tired!
Rule #2-
Indentation matters when you write a narrative. Writers start a new paragraph when the setting changes, a new character is speaking, or when time moves forward or back. Please review the student sample for help with indentation. Or click here to view a mini-tutorial on how to indent a narrative.
Rule #3-
Be creative, but remember to stay within the storyline we have created! Grammartgeddon is a teacher-guided, creative writing activity. There are certain boundaries you must stay within for this activity to work. If you feel like your story doesn’t match the guidelines, please check in with your teachers.
