Want to do a mini-lesson + independent work? Use Zoom+GoGuardian. Do your mini-lesson on Zoom, and then tell students that they have monitored independent work for the next 20-30 minutes. From there, you can be on GoGuardian, with chat enabled, and you can virtually check in on their work, give them feedback, and answer questions. You can even run your scenes and enforce tab limits to help with focus -- just disable any automatic scenes.
