Here are some useful links and resources that we've used in school and would recommend.
Caspar Baldwin is a friend of DCHS. As a trans man he has written about his experiences in this book, which we would higly recommend. Caspar has also worked with Northern Pride and Northumberland Pride.

Mermaids is a national organisation where you can receive advice about issues relating to transitioning and gender identity.
'Becoming Andi' is a great documentary (available on iPlayer) about a trans boy called Andi who filmed his experiences over the course of a year.
We have watched this in school and woudl recommend it to students and parents.
'Heartstopper' is a series of four graphic novels that we have in school. The first has been made into a popular Netflix series.
The first book/series are really accessible and good for having conversations as a family about coming out, being gay or bisexual, and what it's like to process these feelings.
There is also a trans character in the book, but we like how her 'coming out' as trans isn't the main focus - it's normalised, as it should be.
We think 'Heartstopper' is a really positive book/series for youngsters and is PG appropriate - nothing too angsty or worrying. The later books do get a bit darker and there are themes of self-harm that might need to be carefully discsussed.
If you are worried about self-harm you can look at the following useful websites:
If you're not sure about how schools should be supporting LGBT+ people, check out this website. We are proud to say we celebrate our LGBT+ community but it's important to know your rights and express any concerns you have.
Stonewall is a fantastic website and we have received training from them as a school. We even learned about the history of Stonewall from our friend Nathan Bonk, who worked at the Stonewall Inn and came in to give us a talk on the history of Pride.
Northumberland Pride is a dynamic voluntary organisation set up to raise awareness of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT+) culture and heritage.

LGBT+ Foundation exists to support the needs of the diverse range of people who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans. We believe in a fair and equal society where all LGBT+ people can achieve their full potential. #EqualityWins underpins much of what we do and we aim to be; ‘here if you need us.’
