Hello Year 9,
What an incredibly exciting time in your life! A time to be curious; a time to explore the options available to you as you begin to tailor your curriculum and shape your future.
I have been truly inspired by the options assemblies that have highlighted the diverse range of subjects on offer here at the D.C.H.S. I certainly didn’t have this many different opportunities when I was at school.
It can be a little overwhelming, but you can seek advice from your subject teachers, your Form Tutor, Ms Barnes, Heads of Departments, Heads of Faculty, Ms Sweet, your key worker, Ms Hutchinson and I.
Please think about subjects that:
you are passionate about,
you enjoy,
are good combinations and
focus on your strengths.
Consider your aspirations and find out which subjects will help you if you have a particular career or course of study in mind.
Think about the relevance of the subjects in terms of the qualification and transferable skills to the career/interests you want to pursue in the future.
It would seem for some to be reassuring to choose subjects that their friends choose, but this is not a wise choice. Don’t be influenced by others - it is you who will be studying the subjects for the next two years and you may not be in the same class.
Remember not to choose a subject based upon teaching staff - you will not know who you have for your lessons until September.
Enjoy making your choices and come into school on Options Evening to talk to staff about courses, qualifications, methods of assessment and how each subject can impact on your future.
Have fun! I look forward to talking with you over the coming weeks.
Mrs Hopper 🙂
