Entry Qualifications
Five Grade 4 or above at GCSE or equivalent. It is not a requirement that you have studied Child Development and Care at KS4 but if you have you will have achieved at least a level 2 grade to enable you to progress to this level 3 qualification.
What could I do next?
Progress on to higher education or employment in fields such as primary teaching, speech and language therapy, sociology, psychology, teaching assistant, learning support assistant, social work, educational psychology, education officer, NHS apprenticeships, child care apprenticeships.
Please note that as this qualification is taken alongside other A level/ level 3 qualifications in school you will not be licenced to practice as an EYP upon completion of this course. You would be required to progress further through college/university or apprenticeship employment.

What does this qualification cover and how will I be assessed?
Over two years you will study four mandatory units:
Internally assessed
Your teacher will assess this and the exam board will moderate it.
Externally assessed
The exam board set and mark this
You will study the following mandatory units:
Child Development (E)
Keeping Children Safe (E)
Play and learning (I)
Research & reflective practice in an Early Childhood setting (I)
How will it be assessed?
Portfolio of evidence:
Learners must complete a portfolio of evidence for all units, achieving a minimum Pass grade for each one.
External assessment:
Learners must achieve a minimum Pass grade in two externally-set exams.
Grades will be awarded as:
Distinction, Merit, Pass for internal and external assessment.
An overall grade of Distinction* is awarded in circumstances where learners have performed exceptionally well in their external and internal assessments and amassed a UMS score that deserves a D*.
