Oil is a special liquid that is made when plants and animals that lived a long, long time ago get squished together over thousands of years.
We use oil and other natural resources for important things, especially in the energy and business industries. They help us make a lot of energy to power many things, like cars.
There is a way to collect the resources called Fracking. It is a bit like using water to help get the oil from underground. People pump the water deep under ground and this cracks the rocks that hold the oil.
For a really long long time people have been burning fossil fuels to make energy. For example the energy needed to power our cars, power our businesses, and keep the lights on in our homes.
Today, oil, coal, and natural gas make up about 80% of our energy needs, according to the United States Energy Information Administration.
